It’s good to think, but not overthink

People don’t really appreciate ideas. Everyone has ideas. What people appreciate is an idea that is manifested. Even if it’s shitty and only 1 time.

You know the phrase “Shoot your shot, right?”

Watch this clip

People were pissed at LeBron here for not taking the last shot even though it was in a meaningless All Star Game. Typically LeBron is looked at as the guy who always makes the right play. This time he didn’t (the first pass was good, but the second one, no, and I say “no” because hindsight is 20/20 haha) Overthinking ideas to death could lead to passing on even doing them.

(Sidenote for context: LeBron just lost the 2011 Finals the season before this All Star Game. He faced extreme criticism for not showing up in the 4th quarter of those finals and was being called a choker. A large part of this narrative was because of Skip Bayless, but I think most agree he didn’t look right in those finals. This last shot opportunity in a meaningless All Star Game gave more credence to these sentiments.)

Look at Kobe’s face. Even he knew it. He didn’t respect LeBron’s decision to pass it. (Well I’m not 100% sure and I’m assuming, but we saw the same thing, right? Either way, fuck it, it helps make my point)

If LeBron would’ve backed Kobe down or made a crossover with a fadeaway, it would’ve been appreciated- even a miss. I mean, we all know LeBron would’ve loved to take the shot, make it in Kobe’s face and silence the critics….or maybe he didn’t give a shit. But if he did, in fact, deep down in his heart want to shoot…then that “idea” or “dream” (see what I did there- full circle to the beginning sentences) was never manifested because he never even tried.

Shoot your shot. Don’t overthink.

Stay chillin,

Deke
